Staying near Nice's main train station is the perfect option for taking day trips from Nice. Unlike other big cities, the streets around the train station are as safe as any other Nice neighborhood. The neighborhood around the train station has recently been renovated and, on the south side, is mostly pedestrian.

Staying near the train station in the Thiers neighborhood offers more than just the convenience of easy day trips. It’s also a rapidly growing commercial hub. The newly opened Iconic commercial center (pictured above) has become a popular destination for shopping, entertainment, dining, and fitness. Additionally, the area around the train station is home to a wide variety of affordable restaurants, snack stalls, and take-out spots.
The neighborhood encompasses the Quartier des Musiciens (rues Rossini, Verdi, Clemenceau) and runs north to the avenue de Thiers. Avenue Jean Medecin lies to the east and boulevard Gambetta lies to the west.
While there are no major landmarks near the train station, the area offers plenty of dining and drinking options, including a few standout bars. For a unique experience, visit Chez Manu on Rue Angleterre, where you can enjoy live theater on Wednesday evenings and live jazz on Saturdays. Just north of the station, you'll find the stunning Russian Orthodox Cathedral.
The neighborhood is accessible via Tram Line 1, with the closest stop being Thiers. If you're arriving from the airport, you have two options: take Tram Line 2 and transfer to Line 1 at Avenue Jean Médecin, or opt for a simpler route by taking the train from Saint-Augustin station—near the airport—for one stop to Nice Ville train station. Additionally, Tram Line 2 connects the airport to the Grands Arénas stop, located next to the train station.
Being in a bustling urban neighborhood means that everything is within reach from shops and services to drinking and dining.
It can be too busy! All the action obscures the stately, classic buildings that line many streets.
There are no luxury hotels but several excellent three-star hotels around the train station.
